When Dr. Erin Ferranti received the call notifying her she was receiving the American Heart Association’s Healthcare Volunteer of the Year Award, she and her husband were in a hospital waiting room while their middle son was having surgery.”I thought the call was from his surgeon,” said Ferranti, assistant professor of nursing at the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing at Emory University in Atlanta. “My husband later told me that I said ‘You’re kidding!’ five times. I was really shocked; I couldn’t believe it. I’m still speechless.”But to anyone who has ever worked with Ferranti or been under her care, the honor comes as no surprise……
