Education and Navigation Programs to Promote Food and Nutrition Security Among People With Serious Mental Illness

People with serious mental illness have an inordinately higher rate of co-occurring general medical illnesses that lead to significant morbidity and mortality, along with a lifespan shortened by 10–30 years. Serious mental illness is defined from a disability perspective as a failure to achieve major life goals, such as education, employment, and housing, because of a psychiatric diagnosis.
