MONROE, La. (KNOE) – The Ouachita Parish Police Jury has awarded the University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM) $2.26 million to launch their Food Is Medicine program.
The program would integrate clinically prescribed medicine with professional medical care to prevent and treat chronic illnesses.
NELA has ranked high nationally in diet-related chronic diseases including obesity, type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure.
ULM President Dr. Carrie L. Castille says, “the Food Is Medicine program will further the mission of ULM to be a model for how regional universities uplift entire communities.” She described the ULM Colleges of Pharmacy and Health Sciences as “uniquely positioned to carry this program to fruition through our clinical expertise and desire to see communities improved through healthcare.”……..
