On May 2nd, the NPPC submitted a memo recommending ways to incorporate Produce Prescriptions (PRx) into federal healthcare programs to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz. Here’s an excerpt from the memo:
“As a national stakeholder network of Produce Prescription (PRx) practitioners, implementers, healthcare providers, community-based organizations, food retailers, payment software and data management companies, as well as academic research experts, the National Produce Prescription Collaborative (NPPC) wishes to congratulate you on your confirmation as Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Thank you for this opportunity to introduce ourselves and offer some initial recommendations as you build out a health agenda.
NPPC members work together to advance federal and state policy that leverages PRx as a prevention and intervention tool in the treatment of diet-related disease and seeks to further embed this effective model into healthcare and food retail systems. The workgroup that collaborated to draft this document is not necessarily made up of all organizational members, and the contents and positions of this document do not reflect the views of all its organizational supporters.”
