The National Produce Prescription Collaborative Response to the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) Commission Report

6/18/25 –

The NPPC responds to the MAHA Commission report. Here’s an excerpt from the statement:

The National Produce Prescription Collaborative (NPPC) issued the following statement in advance of the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) Commission policy recommendations expected next month.

“The recent MAHA Commission assessment, Make our Children Healthy Again acknowledges the connection of poor nutrition to negative healthcare outcomes, including under-consuming nutrient-dense fruits and vegetables.

As the Commission moves to deliver a policy strategy to the President, NPPC calls on the MAHA Commission to incorporate proven Produce Prescriptions (PRx) into federal healthcare programs, including at the Department of Health and Human Services, for Medicare, Medicaid, build on a successful pilot program at the Indian Health Service, and work to scale a successful pilot program at the Department of Veterans Affairs. PRx utilization has consistently been associated with improved health outcomes like reduced blood sugar, blood pressure, and weight while simultaneously enhancing patient’s engagement with their healthcare plan. These findings have been confirmed repeatedly across 50+ peer reviewed publications and demonstrate that PRx can play a significant role in making children and families healthy.””
