PROVIDENCE — As Rhode Islanders face healthcare cost hikes alongside growing rates of chronic disease, Meals on Wheels Rhode Island (MOWRI) outlines a solution in a new report, which is treating food as a part of healthcare.
The report, titled Advancing Food is Medicine in Rhode Island: The Role of Medically Tailored Meals (2026), was released at MOWRI’s Advocacy is Action Breakfast on Friday, which was the organization’s first-ever policy brief. Within the report, it cites a study that shows expanding access to medically tailored meals could improve health outcomes and presents an estimated $2,500 per patient annually….
