As we celebrate National Nutrition Month, it’s important to recognize the transformative power of Produce Prescriptions Programs on a community’s overall well-being. These initiatives, falling under the broader “food is medicine” umbrella, not only improve food access but also equip individuals with the knowledge and affordable resources to make healthier choices, ultimately reducing chronic disease and fostering healthier lifestyles.

The concept of using food as medicine is gaining traction in Detroit and beyond, particularly in healthcare systems like Henry Ford Health, where my patients are prescribed fresh produce to manage chronic conditions and support food security through the Detroit FreshRx program
