NPPC submitted a public comment RE: CMS-4201-P: Medicare Program; Contract Year 2024 Policy and Technical Changes to the Medicare Advantage Program, Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit Program, Medicare Cost Plan Program, Medicare Parts A, B, C, and D Overpayment Provisions of the Affordable Care Act and Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly; Health Information Technology Standards and Implementation Specifications.

As members of the National Produce Prescription Collaborative (NPPC), we are pleased to offer comments in response to the HHS Notice of Benefit and Payment Parameters for 2024 proposed rule. We are particularly interested in ongoing efforts to enhance the Quality Improvement Program.

The Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018 expanded the types of supplemental benefits that may be offered by Medicare Advantage (MA) plans to chronically ill enrollees through Special Supplemental Benefits for the Chronically Ill (SSBCI). 1 Given the important connection between nutrition and health for older adults, we encourage CMS to make a variety of food as medicine programs, including produce prescription programs available to eligible Medicare beneficiaries across MA plan types.
