NPPC and Partners Meet with CMS Deputy Administrator Dr Meena Seshamani to Discuss Food Is Medicine Services for Seniors

6/06/2024 –

Recently, The Rockefeller Foundation hosted a meeting with Dr. Meena Seshamani, Deputy Administrator at Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to discuss important learnings from our Food is Medicine (FIM) work, including how we can continue to increase the utilization of FIM interventions like medically tailored meals and produce prescriptions for Americans ages 65+. With approximately 65 million individuals enrolled in Medicare and 15% of beneficiaries having 6 or more chronic illnesses, FIM interventions as a covered benefit under Medicare would help beneficiaries achieve their health outcome goals. The NPPC appreciates the Biden Administration’s dedication to advancing FIM and looks forward to a healthcare system that offers these practical and effective treatment and preventive services to seniors across the country enrolled in both traditional and Medicare Advantage plans.
