Growth in diet-related chronic disease and its consequences has spurred increased interest in diet and lifestyle interventions to improve access to healthy, safe, and affordable food; eradicate hunger; and reduce health disparities. The April issue of Health Affairs focuses on key policy issues at the intersection of food, nutrition, and health. In their overview article, Seth Berkowitz and coauthors provide a new conceptual model for understanding the interrelationships among income, food security, nutrition security, diet quality, and health.
