Diet-related diseases, like diabetes, are among the leading causes of death in the U.S. – especially in BIPOC and low-income communities. While food plays an outsized role in our well-being, healthcare systems largely ignore the role of food in health. Our national health care ‘bill’ for diet-related diseases – $1.1 trillion – is equal to all the money we pay for food itself. This panel will bring together experts in the growing Food is Medicine movement to discuss the latest research and how these programs are impacting food-insecure communities and changing the way we think about healthcare.
